Doonbank Cottage sits within its own 4.5 acres of private woodland garden, to which its guests have exclusive use. Among oaks, birch, beech, native Scotch pines, holly, cherry, apple, plum and pear trees, the woods abound in foxgloves, honeysuckle and roses in the summer, holly and ivy in the winter, and in the spring the forest floor is covered with bluebells and wild garlic. Doonbank Cottage's eastern boundary is the River Doon, which stretches for approximately half a mile. It is one of Scotland's most famous salmon rivers, and on its banks Robert Burns composed many of his most famous poems, including 'Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon'.
