Whilst many of our guests choose to drive to Doonbank Cottage as part of their holiday experience, we also have guests who take full advantage of our local airport, Prestwick (PIK), which is only a 15 minute drive from the cottage.

Imagine waking up in Bournemouth and by mid-day, you're relaxing on the banks of the River Doon by the cottage, or enjoying a pub lunch by the famous Brig O'Doon, only minutes walk from Doonbank.

Booking your flight well in advance of your holiday can offer substantial savings. You can then rent a car for the week.

Why not have your car waiting for you at the airport when you touch down? Prices start from as little as £14 pounds per day.

Public Transport

Of course you don't have to hire a car when you fly into Prestwick Airport, you could make use of public transport. Simply catch the train from Prestwick Airport's own railway station, - an 8 minute ride into Ayr Station and then a bus into Alloway [get off the bus by the Brig O'Doon hotel]. The cottage is approximately 10 minutes walk away. To get around, why not hire a bicycle.

By Ferry

Doonbank Cottage is approximately 20 minutes' drive from Troon and 1 hour from Stranraer. Troon ferry port has regular sailings to and from Belfast and Larne, while Stranraer is the main ferry port linking Scotland and Northern Ireland.
